well I have my opinion and you all might not like it, but i think dj's who play cd's are toy.

    here's why:

    1. Vinyl sounds much better on a large system

    2. If you want to mix properly you have to know your vinyl (no auto bpm, no push button que no looping)

    3. Most CDJ's don't have any concept of scratching or beat juggling.

    4. Down loading mp3's does not count as digging! Nothing will show you musical diversity and appreciation like getting your fingers dirty in a record store.

    5. You cant look to the future if you havent seen the past. Having vinyl is like owning a peice of musical history. How else would you know that Twilight 22 was sampled by nearly every breakbeat producer out there.

    6. Its a cool way to destroy the enviroment. Much more fun then driving an SUV.

    7. Vinyl DJ's get more pussy/dick. Its true ask anyone.

    8. Its a good workout. Vinyl's fucking heavy. If you have ever hauled 2 crates after the house party from Oakland to Frisco on the BART you would know what I'm saying.

I welcome your comments. Please tell me how much i suck.

I have nothing but love and respect for all the real oldschool breakbeat producers. We all sampled your shit and most of us have no idea. Props to Twilight 22, T-La-Rock, Mantronics, DMX crue, Art of Noise, Newcleus, Kraftwerk, and everyone else whom we jacked beats from.

    Peace,

    Karlo

vinyl will last forever if you actually give a shit about them. CD dj (whatever) doesn't deliver like it should.

Off the topic: What about the DJ's with the belief of ONLY RECORDS....

You can't find that one track, but it's reprinted on CD. what then?

No No wait, you gotta have that song, man and it's killin you. hmmm.

*This question is really for The Bones, cuz he's mad about dem Vinyl. I wanna no if he would ever incorporate a couple of tracks from CD into his set.

My viewpoints on a DJ and vinyl/other media

Diversify. Adapt. Embrace. Overcome. Remain loyal.

As far as I am concerned, all dj's should use vinyl. However, technological advances shouldnt be ignored either.

For example, vinyl sounds better, however there are sacrifices, pops, clicks, weight cost etc.

Cd's are lighter, and if the production is not compressed before it has been burned on cd then it sounds good too. Unless it skips... that has to be the worst sound in the world.

There are other advances that cd's embrace, like dolby stereo encoding, binaural encoding, etc... vinyl cannot do that. Vinyl is limited (as far as I know) to left right and mono(bass).

Laptops are silly looking but they offer more flexibility with music creation as they can re-key samples/songs on the fly, effect, generate and much more.

When people start worrying about unneeded specs like this, they've lost all comprehension of what it is to be a DJ. I don't care at all about dolby stereo encoding, binaural encoding or whatever. On a 60, 000 watt system, none of that matters. Dance music is for dancing to, not hearing small systematic accuracys in your audio.

I'd like it if people started making sure there were a set of Numark CDXs at every party from now on, then i could start incorperating more of my own tracks in my sets. The fuck if i'll EVER drag out a laptop to DJ with. That's just rediculous.

would a dj who used cds even consider not using vinyl? don't get me wrong, i prefer vinyl myself. seriously tho? who would prefer cds over it?

unless your speaking in terms strictly for listening pleasure. then even still, vinyl is way better.

yea, even those crisp, clean, POPS, and crackles once in a while. heh, noize.
