Yo folks, I will be in Shanghai this Wednesday after our seminar in Hangzhou. I don't usually go on a sightseeing especially if the people around don't speak much in English.

Any cool places you would suggest?

    Thanks.

i love shanghai, but i dont know why,

if you feel likeshopping, i suggest you go to xiang yang mart, lots of stuff to buy..most of them are fake though, but good ones...your bargaining power will be put to the test...just a quick tip: when they quote you a price , try slashing 75 percent off..and act as if you dont really like what youre buying.

sightseing?..if youre not scared of heights, try the TV tower..make sure that the weather is clear, coz if its not you wont enjoy the view much.

when i was there i enjoyed just sitting on a busy street like nanjing road or the bund and simply watch people come and go.

original audio cd's/dvd's are really cheap.

be sure to have a chinese dictionary handy coz very few people speak english.

good luck and i hope you enjoy your trip.

Yo thanks for all your suggestions.

Just went to a show earlier this evening in Hangzhou. Haven't seen anything like it. I was truly impressed. The lighting, the stage design, the costumes were fantastic. The acrobats and the dancers were really amazing. Too bad I don't know what the name of the show was. I just went along with my Chinese colleagues.

For Shanghai I might want to spend the night on some bar with music and dancing for English-speaking folks . Last time I went to Malones. THen there was this place ...another bar Park 97(?) or Plaza something where my Chinese friends brought me. Unfortunately these friends are no longer based in Shanghai.

Last Saturday in Guangzhou the Tang Bar was a blast ! Would have loved to tour around the city unfortunately all my seminars are in the morning and my only free time is at night.

Any additional Shanghai input is very much welcome.. Cheers !

ask these Alien Residents in Shanghai, they know better...and if you are lucky, you may be able to catch one of their great parties.

Make sure to wear green hat. It will show them that you're a foreigner and they all will be very aware of it and helpful.

    Howdee folks !

Thanks for all your inputs. Good thing I was not able to read the "green hat thing" when I went around Shanghai.

The place is cool. It has not changed much since 2003 the last time I was there. Except of course for some cool bars lining along the Street where Malone's bar is ( perpendicular to Nan Jing Xi Lu)

Wish I could speak Mandarin and read Chinese characters. I would have ventured to Wuxi to meet a friend.

Hangzhou is a nice place too. They have saying in China that if earth has a heaven , China has Hangzhou.

It was great to meet some fellow Filipinos performing on the bars. Cheers !

    Shanghai,

Great place. Be sure to bargain at all the local markets and visit the old town.

There are a lot of great nightclubs there, you can have a lot of fun there. I only stayed there for a couple days then went to Beijing, but I wish I had more time there. I loved the blue neon under the bridges, such a cool looking city. During Chinese New year, the fireworks blew up everywhere and in between skyscrapers and I thought I was going to get blown up by firecrackers.. it was so much fun. hahaha
