I've started something in Cleveland that I don't know if I'll be able to finish. Heres the deal: Everyone in every major city has this supposed problem with Cliques of Promoters and Dj's that refuse to deal with anyone except thoughs in their Clique. Well of course then comes the he said she said bullshit and then you got everyone booking Headliners on the same night as everyone else. Personally I FUCKING LOVE DRAMA.....EXCEPT...... WHEN THAT BULLSHIT STARTS MESSING WITH THE SCENE. Do we all agree that Hey, shit is fucked up from the drama? Good.....How to fix it? Simple, who do you know in your city that throws the best after parties? Take that person, get them a venue that everyone agrees is pretty cool but more importantly, NEVER CAPABLE OF SNITCHING. Have them start booking the best local area Dj's to do regular hours at the venue and Afterhours at the venue. Tell everyone about only the Afterhours at first. This way all the cliques have some place to kick it that they can trust because hell, The Guy is KNOWN for his afterhours. After a while people confide in him, he mediates all the events that everyone is doing . Sets up meetings between Promoters, keeps them from stepping on eachothers toes and, then cupcakes and soda for everyone. And yea, it's that damn simple. SO WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU STILL SITTING HERE FOR?

well that would be nice in a perfect world. i have been in the rave scene for about 6 years here down in california. i rave and live by the rules that my babysitters and my elders teach. you respect eachother, yourself, dont mix anything with anything unless you are babysat by a professional or know exactly what your doing. i was just a raver. and that was just fine. i was innocent to the ways of promoters and dj's and all that bullshit.

i have done what few have done before me. i have went from old skool kandy kid to being a promoter and help work at underground raves. after all the years of plurriness and love and happy vibes (especially since i got out of the mainstream la/hollywood scene) i realised that most people that throw the parties ironically enough arent very plur at all. the mainstream scene is ugly and crooked and evil and greedy. that will never change. THE ONLY WAY TO CHANGE THE UGLY MONSTER OUR SCENE HAS BECOME IS TO TAKE A STAND AND SAY NO MORE! no longer will i go to a overcrowded badly ventilated fire trap, get charged 5 dollars for water and not know what the hell i am taking. no longer will i feed this monster. the babysitters of old are all but gone and there is no one to teach the new kids the proper responsible way to party. they dont know they dont have to put up with this to have a good time.

the point is if you have anything to do with the promotion of raves or if your a dj or anything like that, you must understand that even in the underground it can be very ugly. people steal. people lie. people sell bad drugs and bring violence to the parties. you have to deal with greedy people and mean evil promoters. but there are still rules. and if you dont fallow the rules it will eventually catch up with you. there will always be drama and he said she said and animocity between crews. its if you can look past the drama and just do what you feel and what you love and do the right thing that sets you apart.

my crew is awesome. i work with my crew and i love what i do. i dont get anything financially out of it at all. i dont get a single dollar. i will work through whole parties. and of coarse the crew stays sober through the party. most of the crew works for free or almost free too. and a lot of other people think i'm nuts for driving a hundred miles to help throw a party or sacrifice sleep because im needed.i usually work as a babysitter and take care of all the kids all night. for the night everyone in my tent or in the chill area are my kids. everyone is completly taken care of and i am prepaired for whatever could happen. why do i do it?

because i get to go out and make hundreds of people happy every night, i get to hear my fav. dj's all the time and i get to have fun for free. and honestly watching 30 or 40 kids run up and hug me and tell me they missed me and all the other people who heard of me and want to come and party with me feels pretty damned cool. and knowing that i teach all those kids the proper way to party and that they are safe makes me feel like i gave back for all the years i was just a kid like them. and then they will know how to take care of other kids. and sometimes i like to think that in a way im making my scene a little safer place.

and besides its really really fun to watch ravers lose thier hands in thier sweater. and watch a hundred kids all laying on top of eachother and talking like they have all knew eachother for years is cool. especially when they all do a sublime sing-a-long.

so moral of the story is that some crews may argue and disagree. but in the underground we are all here for the same reason. to make sure every single kid that comes to our parties leaves with great memories, has the best time of thier lives, and gets back to thier homes safe. and also shows up to the second annual dream again thats going on aug. 20'th from 9pm saturday to 12 noon sunday. free water free fresh fruit and free pancake breakfast for everyone. beautifull private forest location less that 45 minutes from l.a. sorry what kind of promoter would i be if i didnt promote? bring your tents and watch out for flying otter pops. if you want the line up or all the rest of the info just drop me a line and i will send you info.

of coarse there is still an underground scene. you just have to look a little harder. if everyone knew about the underground scene it would be just as fucked up as the bullshit mainstream parties.

i don't want to look harder....these so called "raves" they have today are poor imitations of something that once happened

..the good stuff in detroit happens in the mainstream now....which is smarter..the ravers just got older and wanted a bar, a cleaner atmosphere, and not having to worry about being robbed, shot...etc

..if it's not at a club it's at a art galleries and other caberet spots ...but who the fuck wants the underground shit anymore anyway??

if i can hear UR live at hart plaza i'm fine with the mainstream

actually, I've spent alot of time working in the underground scene (mainly around LA and San Bern) and gone to alot of mainstream parties and out of the two, I prefer the mainstrem. Theres nothing fucked up about mainstream parties, they're safer, ALWAYS have better talent and have 100% chance of NOT being busted up because, what do you know, your partying in a LEGAL venue. When dealing with underground parties, you've got the pain in the ass map-point, crappy security who are only looking for mass amounts of drugs to appease the house dealers so god knows how many weapons get in, and while the underground is a great place for new and up-coming DJs & MCs to play and promote, they really are only creating background music for a drugged out frenzy (unless they are smart enough to hand out demo-tapes)

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE THE SCENE but I've been to enough Masonic Temples and drivin through numberous whare-house mazes that I'd rather leave it to the professionals.

forgive me if i'm barking up the wrong tree.

Here in the UK, there is still a huge underground scene of "Free parties". The rigs get together and storm off into the sunset. We all get there and have an excellent time. Recently tho' it is all about who has got the best rig (or who has sold the most coke and bought the most expensive rig). Take me back to the days when we used to all run into a disused barn/ farm with shopping trolleys full of HiFi speakers and beer, and chip in for the petrol for the generator.

    Peace, Bobski.
