Have any of you ever taken a shared taxi, taxibus, jeepney or any other shared, none scheduled transportation in your travels? How did it work? How much did it cost? Who takes this mode of transportation, and how often?
Not sure how "travels" is defined. In any case, shared taxis are essential in Cyprus for getting around the island. The public bus transportation between cities is awful so shared taxis are the next best alternative. The shared taxi to Limassol is twice the cost of the bus. For the Travel Express, one calls the telephone number and at any time and they come to pick you up. Unfortunately the last taxi intercity is at 6pm - though this is probably a cultural influence. People on my route work in Limassol but live in Nicosia (80km or 50 miles away) so they ride daily. Not sure on the why. For me, I have a really old car (1978!!) and can't imagine driving it to Limassol every day.
In the past, I remember taking the shared taxi to the airport (again in Cyprus). In that case, we rendez-voused at the taxi office and were dropped off at a central point. This was before the Travel Express came into being.
I also remember shared taxi to and from the airport in Israel. Can't remember if drop off was at a central point though.
