You bring up an interesting point. It's kind of an eternal argument isn't it? Who do you blame for a child's behavior, the child or the parents?
I think once you get into your teen years, kids can start shouldering the blame for their behavior. I mean, they're old enough to think critically...
I think the point of the show is to reveal just how empty inside these kids are. But I worry that that subtelty is lost on the tweeners who watch most of MTVs programming.
