The world's sacred writings and holy scriptures are all intended to prompt every member of humaninty to seek God and find Him within themselves. This is their ultimate purpose. All the world's greatest spiritual teachings have urged us to find God inside us, to realize that he is being the very entity we perceive ourselves to be. If you have sought only to learn the scriptures and sacred writings in an effort to hone your ability to memorize and spout rote recitations, you have missed the high call of their message.
Little of greatest significance is gained from such mindless memorizations and recitations. Study, study, study, yes. But for what? To know the scriptures? I daresay not. Rather, study to discover the way, to know the way, to God within. If you have not found Him within yourself, your studying has been for naught. Knowledge of sacred wrtings may bring some measure of peace and comfort, but not much. Such peace and comfort fall shallow and pale by comparison to the joy and assurance that come by the simple knowledge of His Presence within. WITHIN WITHIN WITHIN.
Your Father within you is rewarded when you discover that He is your true identity. He has delivered to you, and continues to deliver, great tools and instruments toward that very purpose. Why praise the scriptures, words from ancient leaders long passed and gone, when the Living Word is being spoken continuously within you? Yes, the wisdom of the scriptures is ageless and inspiring, but study their history. The writings have been sullied by the tamperings of men. Just look at how much they have changed in our brief lifetimes alone. So, too, has their understanding been watered down and diluted by interpretations vain and misguided.
But not to fear; the Living Word of God is eternally with us. There is no need to stand upon the scriptures which can never be more than a mere facsimile of the Living Word. I speak of that eternal Living Word which is yet in the very mouth of the Father within us all. It has never changed. Never been diluted. He is ever the crystal clear preacher, the wise and most knowledgeable priest, the rabbi without error, the shahman with reason above reproach, the eternal personal counselor of all humankind. He has been talking since you were born. How often have you stopped to listen?
How much could have been gained if you had spent as much time studying the Living Word within as you spent studying the ancient writings of other men, dead nd alive? He is available to us now and He can clarify all things; any and everything He declares to be true. The ancients are passed away and can clarify nothing they spouted. If all you know of God is captured in your ability to memorize and recite scriptures, then, you've accomplished little. The real Word is still in His mouth, though, in the secret inner chamber, where the Father is right now declaring, "I am all that I am."
"But the voice of God is so hard to hear," you say. True. But how much do you really understand, after all those years of "studying" the so called written word. What can you say is really clear to you? If you have never gone to Him within for confirmation of your understanding, then your belief system is riddled with contradictions and confusion. I guarantee you.
If you can't answer the following fundamental questions with certainty in your heart, and without quoting ancient writings and the words of others, then you need to ask yourself, "After all this time, what do I really know of God?" You need to get acquainted with the living God who sits on the throne within you. He is your True Identity. Your identity does not belong to you. You have no identity of your own. Glory of glories, your Identity belongs to God and to God alone. It's a beautiful paradox.
