My parents are going to loan me 5 to 6 thousand that I have to pay back in 5 years. Im thinking about buying a used truck. It would be either...

    1990 Chevy Z-71,

    Ford F-250,

    Dodge 1500 or 2500.

Does any one have or had one of these. Right know im to lazy to find out if these models have any major problems. I know dodge has tranny problems but I don't know about Ford or Chevy.

Im looking for it to be 4x4, I would prefer a manual.

Im going to use it for a daily driver and maybe take it mudding every once in a blue moon. Im also planing on a 4 to 6" lift. Also what exhaust should i get. I don't want to be heard a mile away, but I want a good deep rumble and it be loud when I get on it. What are the pors and cons of true duals.

get an early to mid 80's silverado. Theyre cheap, easy to lift because they still have a solid front axle, they still have manually operated Transfer cases with manual hubs, and theyre carbed so its easy to work on em. Not to mention they look pretty badass once you get everything done.

Don't get a 3/4 ton unless you actually need it. If you just want a truck for the once in a while shit stick with the 1/2 tons.

Id say the opposite get a 3/4 ton, 4L65E trannies aren't the strongest where as the 4L85E in the 3/4tons are quite strong, stronger parts = less break downs, plus a 3/4ton with a 350 is going to get nearly the same milage as a 1/2ton with a 350.

In that case, getting a 3/4-ton with a 350 is basically a glorified station wagon and nothing more. Why get that much truck then? My stepdad's 2000 X-cab long bed 3/4-ton with the 454/auto gets ~15 MPG's on the highway. No joke, 3.73s are great. In that case, why bother with a 350? At least if a 454 gets ~9 MPGs towing ~10, 000 LB's like my steppops truck does pulling a 36' travel trailer, it will do the job, unlike a simialr model truck with a 350 in it.

4L80E's are stronger than 4L60E's, but they still to take a crap on occasion. Moot point.
