So i've been looking for a job for wat...4/5 months now and have had no luck. I have more qualifications than most other people my age and i'm a trained counsellor. And so because i cannot find a job i have decided to blame the equal oppitunities act.

This is a crappy act which stops people getting jobs.

For those of you who do not know, in this country all emoployers have to go by this equal opitunities act, meaning the should have certian percentages of people who the employ from all ethnic groups, religions, gender, age, sexuality and disabitiy. Which i think is a load of shit.

As i have just found out. Under the garenteed interview scheme, if you met the minimum requirements for a job, if you are disabled you can claim the right for an interview. Even if every other applicant has better qualifications etc, if you mee t the minimum requirements you get an interview. IT'S PATHETIC!!!!!

And then you get 'positive discrimination'. Like if you had more women than men employed, if the woman is slightly more qualified, then you hire the man because you have a shortage. Or erm..oh, because i'm under 18 peopler are reluctant to give me a job, which is discrimination.

Now excuse me, bu isn't this against the Age Discrimination Act of 2006, whch makes it unlawful to discrinate against somebodys age on the grounds of employment. I undertand if it's because of licensing laws. But i've applied EVERYWHERE!!!(EVEN MCDONALDS TURNED ME DOWN ON THE ACCOUNT THAT THEIR INSURANCE WOULDN'T CONVER ME) They call it positive discrimination. But to me discrimination of any kind is wong.

And another thing, ethnic background. IT SHOULDN'T MATTER!!! you should hire the person most qualified for the job. Did you know that inthis country, you are most likely to get into university if you are a muslim female than a white british male. Which i think is wrong. I have nothing against people from other ethnic backgrounds (as my group of friends propbebly would show hehe) but it's rediculous. AND SO IS WHEN YOU MAKE PEOPLE SIGN A FORM SAYING THEY WILL NOT LOOK FOR PART TIME WORK WHILE AT UNIVERSITY!!!

    *breathes*

I shan't carry on about uni's or i'll get carried away.

But the equal oppitunities forms are bollocks! If things really were equal then they wouldn't want to know.

And if anybody can find me a job i'll be muchly gratefull.

And one mor thing i have decided to blame. THAT STUPID, GOD-AWEFUL CATCH 22 OF NEEDING EXPERIANCE FOR A JOB. I CAN'T GET EXPERIANCE WITHOUT A JOB,BUT I CAN'T GET A JOB BECAUSE I HAVE NO EXPERIANCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You must have spent a lot of energy on this outside circumstance. Yet, you are no closer to getting a job.

Law of attraction says: You should stop worrying about the things you DON'T have; it's wasted energy.

They probably turned you away because you weren't prepared, you failed the interview, or your resume was low quality. I know a guy who was rejected from McDonalds; ethically they are a bad company, but this doesn't mean they will hire everyone.

Before you blame the rest of the world, and waste your energy on outside circumstances, ask yourself: What did I do wrong? Pick up a book called The 5 minute interview from the library; it has helpful hints about getting a job. Before you apply research the company background, have a thorough understanding about their company, dress professionally, be polite, only present your positive attributes unless you are directly asked "What is one of your negative attributes?", etc.

    Good luck,

    Peace.

    1) i have only had 1 interview, which was with mcdonalds.

    2) they wouldn't hire me because i have a defibrilator implant and there insurance wouldn't cover me

    3) I have aplied for over 200 different jobs

    4) my cv is perfect, i have had it assessed by different people and they all say it's find how it is,

    5) People have told me they would hire me, but when they ask my age and i tell them i am 17, they change their minds.

this country is shit. I had to leave college becas i was ill, and i canot find a job. If i were over the age of 18 i could get jobseekers allowence, but as i am only 17 i cannot. I have no money. And my mum is asking for rent.

I know about interview techniques, in school we had to have mock interviews. As practices. I have been to our local connections ( they help young people with any roblems they have) and the srupid woman told me that i'm doing everything right, and i should keep trying.

If i don't find a job between now and when i start college again, it will look like i havn't done anything for these months and it will put employers off hiring me in the future.

Do not patronise me i have had a very bad day.

Its likely they wont hire you because you're under 18 because of the child labor laws. There are limits on how many hours and how late you can work which would put an unfair load on those over 18 when you leave. You're still in school I gather, and likely living with your parents as well, so there's less of a reason for you to consistantly show up for work. There's also the possibility that with your lack of experience (whiny attitude and sense of entitlement not withstanding) that you aren't showing up to apply and for interviews professionally.

Ask your mom or another adult to help you pick out good interview clothes.

After an interview, send a thank you letter (or E-mail, if the opening is immediate, but if its being filled in 3 days or more, just send a letter)

Smile, make eye contact, show confidence in yourself.

Think about questions they may ask and write down answers so you can recite them on the spot, instead of thinking about 'gee, why should you hire me?' for 10 minutes.

I AM NOT STILL IN SCHOOL!!!!!

And in this country child labour laws do not apply once you are over 16.

But you do not have to be pain minimum wage untilyou are 18. I have no commitments at the moment and so not showing up for work is not an option. Once again tho this is discrimination.

The only reason i have a whiny attitued is because im sick to death of not being abe to find a job. I've been trying for 5 months, (constantly for over 4 months) I apply to atleast 1 new job a day...and i have not even had an interview.

Sounds to me like you're angry because your mom thinks if you don't work you will become a bum and leach for the rest of your life, and you're pissed off because these shitty minimum wage jobs, where you don't even won't to work, are turning you down.

    Start your own business.

I heard a story of a 14 year old who was able to sell his business at the age of 15 for $1 million.

I have no money to stat my own bussiness. My mum already thinks i'm a bum. I need a job, i don't care where (hence mcdonadls) but i will go mad if i cannot find a job. It's rediculous. I'm angry BECAUSE I CAN'T FIND A FUCKING JOB!!! I have done everything i can possibly do. I've joined agencies. They can't find me a job. And then the government claims that people under 18 are lazy and that very few of them are in work.

So at this very moment i am writing to my local mp to explain that the current situation i find myself in shows what a patetic country i live in.

Start by setting a goal; on a piece of paper write what is the ideal job for you, what is the ideal pay, what are the ideal hours. Pick a day from the calendar when you want to already be working.

Next you must get rid of all your negative emotions associated with work; they are subconsciously giving your interviewers negative vibes. You are setting yourself up for failure. Hang this up on your wall and read it every day.

In a dark and quiet room, close your eyes and visualize ALREADY working at your ideal company. Feel the good, the joy, the victory of having employment; smell, hear, see the sounds of the environment and coworkers. Do this for 3 minutes each day.

Now assume that every job you are rejected from, it means you weren't supposed to work there because you wouldn't be happy. Every interview that doesn't go as planned, be happy you weren't hired.

Keep your mind open; don't let the "I can't" mentality doom you. Surround yourself by positive influences: music, positive-thinking tapes, movies, comedy. If you are fatigued of looking for a job, tell your mom to piss off because her nagging won't help you; she's an energy vampire and she's stealing your willpower.

Whatever you do, never think/feel bad things like "I don't have a job", "No one will hire me", "Society is unjust!" Your subconscious mind will begin to live like these things are true and you will send negative vibes to your employers, and no one will ever hire you.

So basically be happy that i can't find a job or get an interview and magically the people who i want to employ me will be like 'hey, she wan'ts to be employed, lets give her a job'

Because they can't tell from the fact that i've applied in the first place.
