Who I am and what I'm about

My name is Mike Logsdon and I am excited to be a part of the group. In 1996 I lost my mother to a brain tumor, a GBM. Since the loss of my mother I thought a great deal about what I could do to take that negative experience and turn it into something positive. In 2004 I made a decision to do just that. I called my brother and told him about an idea I had.

The idea was to raise funds and awareness for brain tumor research through a 16,000 mile charity bicycle ride, from Alaska to Argentina, on behalf of the National Brain Tumor Foundation.

On July 26th, 2005 my brother John and I, two very suburban young men from California, got on donated bikes (we didn't even own bicycles at the time) in the Alaskan Arctic and started off towards Ushuaia, Argentina.

It took us 14 months to cross the 13 countries. In that time we were charged by bears in Alaska, shot at in Mexico, held hostage in Guatemala, were brutalized by a parasite in Nicaragua, fought dysentery in Peru, almost froze in the Chilean Andes and much more. In all that time I can tell you that never once did we give up because we knew that there are so many people out there because we knew brain tumor survivors fight even harder each and every day to beat this disease. We knew that if they/you can do that then we could over-come any obstacle on the "long road south".

So a humble thank you for your continued fight, you provide myself and so many others with inspiration.

    Sincerely,

    Mike Logsdon
