"The Namesake" is a book by Jhumpa Lahiri. Ms. Lahiri is one of the upcoming star writers in the world today. "The Namesake" was a follow-up to her debut book known as "Interpreter of Maladies" which won her the Pulitzer Prize.

The book has been turned into a movie, directed by Mira Nair ("Monsoon Wedding", "Vanity Fair", "Mississippi Masala" among other works), and was just released in the US this past Friday (I believe). It has a couple of stars like Kal Penn (Harold from "Harold and Kumar...", Irfan Khan, and Tabu.

"The Namesake" describes the struggles between two first generation Bengali immigrants to the United States, Ashima Ganguli (Tabu) and Ashoke Ganguli (Irfan Khan), and their children, Gogol (Kal Penn) and Sonali (Sonia) (Sahira Nair).

The story begins as Ashoke and Ashima leave Kolkata, India and settle in New York. Through a series of errors, their son's nickname, Gogol, becomes his official birth name, an event which will shape many aspects of his life. Gogol eventually meets and falls in love with two women, Maxine (Jacinda Barrett) and Moushumi (Zuleikha Robinson).

I would highly recommend the book. I plan on seeing the movie sometime this week. Here is the trailer for it. The trailer looks GREAT in my opinion:

Just watch the trailer. If you like it, go watch the movie.

Irfan Khan and Tabu are EXCELLENT actors/actresses. If they are in it, the movie is going to be good.

LOL That's not Jeff Goldblum!!! That's Irfan Khan!! He's one of the best actors in the world by the way. Absolutely brilliant actor.

As for the "no kissing, no holding hands", well, what can I say, but that's a really conservative family there.

I wouldn't be surprised if that was a christmas tree (will have to see the trailer again). We celebrate Christmas. Why not? I want presents too! :)
