I recently accepted the challenge of participating in the National Walk for Epilepsy. The Walk will take place on Saturday, March 31, 2007 in Washington, DC on the National Mall. Walkers will be drawn from people who have epilepsy, their loved ones, doctors, friends and the general public. The Walk will take place at the beginning of Cherry Blossom season, a lovely time to visit our Nation's Capital.
The Walk will be in furtherance of the Epilepsy Foundation's mission, which is to ensure that people with seizures are able to participate in all life experiences, and the Foundation will prevent, control and cure epilepsy through research, education, advocacy and services.
I have worked in the Epilepsy Foundation's Jeanne A. Carpenter Legal Defense Fund for over 9 months, and know first hand the legal issues faced by people with epilepsy. Your support for this walk will aid us in doing more medical research on the disease and enable us to provide more legal advocacy services to those in need. Each day consumers contact our office with complaints of employment discrimination, denial of medications in schools, and inappropriate police/EMT response, to name a few.
Epilepsy is the third most-common neurological condition behind stroke and Alzheimer’s-affecting more than three-million Americans – but few people know that it can affect anyone, anywhere at any time.
What can you do?
Would you know what to do if you witnessed someone having a seizure? What if the person having the seizure was you? Each year, 200,000 new cases are diagnosed. With knowledge, and funds to continue great research, we can face the future without fear. Together we can help bring epilepsy out of the shadows. Please make a donation or join my walking team . . . the QUEEN BEES. We’re the queens of striving to: Be Beautiful, Be Positive, and our Best.
It is faster and easier than ever to support this great cause - you can make your donation online by simply clicking on the link at the <myspace>bottom</myspace> of this message. If you would prefer, you can also send your tax-deductible contribution (to my attention) to the address listed below.
Any amount, great or small, helps in the fight. I greatly appreciate your support and will keep you posted on my progress.
Thank you in advance for your consideration.
I appreciate you and your support for this worthy cause,
Barbara
