Though I never got to see him play, I was always under the impression that Russia's Lev Yashin was considered one of the greatest keepers ever...? Who's this guy then?
Also Beckham and Owen, but no Bobby Moore for England? Bizarre list.
I'd rank him among the best keepers during the early to mid 90s. Played in the '82 and '86 World Cups. Can't remember if he played in Italy '90.
Communism kept him behind the Iron Curtain and so international play was almost the only time those in the west could see him.
Also, as you've stated, one mention of "Soviet keepers" and Yashin is the name that pops up immediately. It's tough to be second on a list when he's number one. But he was an excellant keeper and if the Bosman rule was in effect during his time, I'm sure he'd have been one of the highest paid keepers.
Oleg Blokhin is another Soviet not on that list that should be. Midfielder from Dynamo Kiev. Probably ranks even with or a very close second to Shevchenko as the greatest ever from the Ukraine.
