I see some christians cussing on the forums, just want to share something with you.
Paul clearly taught crude jokes, filthy talk, is nothing more than our mouth endorsing fornication, etc:
Colossians 3:8
But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth.
Some people just cuss to cuss, so to say. Every other word is a cuss word, they aren't necessarily mad when they do it. That is filthy communication. Cussing when you are mad is anger, wrath, and malice. Saying God's name in vein or cursing at someone else is blasphemy. You have no right to "damn" anyone, or curse them. Only God can judge someone, and He doesn't do it until they die.
Good post. We are supposed to be noticeably different than the rest of the world. That is difficult to do when we engage in dirty jokes and cuss.

yea but it ain't the lord's name in vain and it ain't one of the 2 main rules or the 10 commandments...
I have more concern over coveting than cursing...let me get coveting down and then I'll worry about the cursing.

I like to curse, so why dont you fuck off...hahah joking.
I still like to curse though. It's more blunt and sticks out. I dont believe candy coating bullshit to describe words when it all basically means the same fucking thing

What is "dirty language" and what's within the verses posted here is HIGHLY dependent on the context of the situation you're in.
Example:
I wouldn't say "ass" in front of my priest.
I would in front of my buddy - but it would be offensive or even seen as crude (or noticed at all really).
The point I;m making is that communication deals with what the sender intends AND what the receiver receives, and that pretty variable.
I just wanna make the point that we don't need to be stick 'n the muds but we should be conscientious.

At least we're allowed to use crude humor. That's the best kind. Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk or coarse joking, which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving. Ephesians 5:4

Ephesians 4:29
Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.
I like how the Message puts it,
29Watch the way you talk. Let nothing foul or dirty come out of your mouth. Say only what helps, each word a gift.
We are to minister Christ, and edify. That is the purpose of our mouth. Cussing is just corrupt communication.
And when you are the only Christian around and others are talking crudely, don't laugh along with them. This is hard as you'll stand out. I felt weird the first time I practiced this. I was with some co-workers and we were all hanging out at an office party. One of the girls cracked a filthy joke and everyone was laughing but me. You'll start noticing people appologize when they cuss around you after awhile. Now, if you act like a goody two shoes like you're above them, they'll just avoid you. But if you're humble and are setting an example of Christ, they will get convicted.
3But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints;
4Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient: but rather giving of thanks.
5For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.
6Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience.
7Be not ye therefore partakers with them.
8For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light:
Paul associates fornication with filthy talk. If you keep glorifying fornication with your mouth, you are seering your conscience, which can be dangerous as this silences the Holy Ghost's warnings when you are about to enter into sin.
The "F" word ect. is filthy talk and is speaking perversely about God's covenant symbol between a man and a woman.
Saying God's name in vein is blasphemy, so is saying Jesus name insincerely.
7Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.
Also cursing in general is really foolish as a Christian,
44For each tree is known and identified by its own fruit; for figs are not gathered from thornbushes, nor is a cluster of grapes picked from a bramblebush.
45The upright (honorable, intrinsically good) man out of the good treasure [stored] in his heart produces what is upright (honorable and intrinsically good), and the evil man out of the evil storehouse brings forth that which is depraved (wicked and intrinsically evil); for out of the abundance (overflow) of the heart his mouth speaks.
46Why do you call Me, Lord, Lord, and do not [practice] what I tell you?
Let's see this in action with salvation:
Romans 10:10
For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
We accept salvation in our heart, and with our mouth confess it.
What comes out of your mouth, is what's in your heart. That's why you see jealous people speaking gossip, angry people always yelling, uncontent people talking bad about others, proud people always talking about how great they are, and flesh minded people always talking about getting drunk and fornicating.
Our mouths have power in the spiritual realm. How did God create the universe? Words. How did we receive Christ? Profession with our mouths.
Psalm 59:12
For the sin of their mouth and the words of their lips let them even be taken in their pride: and for cursing and lying which they speak.
Psalm 62:4
They only consult to cast him down from his excellency: they delight in lies: they bless with their mouth, but they curse inwardly. Selah.
Don't cancel your faith by cursing yourself.
Cursing is a very real manifestation.
In the Old Testament we see many strange rituals, for example there was a test that a man could have the priest perform to see if the baby in his wife's belly was of another man:
13And a man lie with her carnally, and it be hid from the eyes of her husband, and be kept close, and she be defiled, and there be no witness against her, neither she be taken with the manner;
14And the spirit of jealousy come upon him, and he be jealous of his wife, and she be defiled: or if the spirit of jealousy come upon him, and he be jealous of his wife, and she be not defiled:
15Then shall the man bring his wife unto the priest, and he shall bring her offering for her, the tenth part of an ephah of barley meal; he shall pour no oil upon it, nor put frankincense thereon; for it is an offering of jealousy, an offering of memorial, bringing iniquity to remembrance.
16And the priest shall bring her near, and set her before the LORD:
17And the priest shall take holy water in an earthen vessel; and of the dust that is in the floor of the tabernacle the priest shall take, and put it into the water:
18And the priest shall set the woman before the LORD, and uncover the woman's head, and put the offering of memorial in her hands, which is the jealousy offering: and the priest shall have in his hand the bitter water that causeth the curse:
19And the priest shall charge her by an oath, and say unto the woman, If no man have lain with thee, and if thou hast not gone aside to uncleanness with another instead of thy husband, be thou free from this bitter water that causeth the curse:
20But if thou hast gone aside to another instead of thy husband, and if thou be defiled, and some man have lain with thee beside thine husband:
21Then the priest shall charge the woman with an oath of cursing, and the priest shall say unto the woman, The LORD make thee a curse and an oath among thy people, when the LORD doth make thy thigh to rot, and thy belly to swell;
22And this water that causeth the curse shall go into thy bowels, to make thy belly to swell, and thy thigh to rot: And the woman shall say, Amen, amen.
23And the priest shall write these curses in a book, and he shall blot them out with the bitter water:
24And he shall cause the woman to drink the bitter water that causeth the curse: and the water that causeth the curse shall enter into her, and become bitter.
25Then the priest shall take the jealousy offering out of the woman's hand, and shall wave the offering before the LORD, and offer it upon the altar:
26And the priest shall take an handful of the offering, even the memorial thereof, and burn it upon the altar, and afterward shall cause the woman to drink the water.
27And when he hath made her to drink the water, then it shall come to pass, that, if she be defiled, and have done trespass against her husband, that the water that causeth the curse shall enter into her, and become bitter, and her belly shall swell, and her thigh shall rot: and the woman shall be a curse among her people.
28And if the woman be not defiled, but be clean; then she shall be free, and shall conceive seed.
29This is the law of jealousies, when a wife goeth aside to another instead of her husband, and is defiled;
30Or when the spirit of jealousy cometh upon him, and he be jealous over his wife, and shall set the woman before the LORD, and the priest shall execute upon her all this law.
31Then shall the man be guiltless from iniquity, and this woman shall bear her iniquity.
This has to do with generational curses, which are still active today unless broken by Christ. Which is why you see, kids in the same sins as their parents.
But that is another post. The point is cursing is just as real as blessing.
That is why we are to be "slow to speak", not that we are to be introverts and never talk, but to watch what comes out of our mouth. You can kill God's Will in your life with bitter talk.
13Their throat is an open sepulchre; with their tongues they have used deceit; the poison of asps is under their lips:
14Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness:
15Their feet are swift to shed blood: true

This Scripture is also good!
"Out of the same mouth come forth blessing and cursing. It is NOT proper, my brothers, for these things to go on occuring this way."-James 3:10
