Hey... what kinds of cheese do you guys like? Do you often spring for the good stuff once in awhile?
Today I planned on making dinner but I needed cheese for it. So rather than getting the pre-shredded bagged stand-by I went with something different. I picked up some Hickory Smoked Swiss and chedder cheese. Holy shit this stuff was good.
It was good enough to eat by it'self. Some cheeses are better with crackers or something, but this was good enough to eat alone. Which I think shows alot for the cheese.
So when you buy cheese, what's your favorite?

Picking a favorite cheese is like picking a favorite beer. I enjoyall types of cheeses!! I just can't pick a favorite. Cheese can set the tone for the entire meal. If I had topick one it would be my own toe cheese.

It's a very difficult question to answer - the UK currently has 749 different varieties of cheese.
Everyones everyday favorite is cheddar.
Mmmm...I have to disagree......there are far more interesting cheeses around than cheddar so I wouldn't say it was my favourite. Unless of course you mean real Cheddar.....that is the cheddar cheese that is actually made in Cheddar, Somerset. All the other mass produced cheddars just do not compare.

Mmmm, from Mizithra to Gouda to Ementhal to just a good hard block of something in the back of the fridge that's still good to grate on to foods, cheese is fantastic!
I always hanker for a hunka cheese.

In addition to the staple Tillamook cheddar, cream cheese, and Kraft singles, I have right now in my fridge:
1 wedge Kerrygold Oak Smoked Blarney Irish Castle Cheese
1 sm. brick Kerrygold Irish Swiss Cheese (weird, I know)
1 wedge Greek Kasseri
1 wedge Coombe Castle Saxon Shires (layers of Red Leicester, Double Gloucester, Lancashire, White Cheddar, & Coloured Cheddar)
1 sm wheel Edam
1 sm wheel Gouda
I think I might like cheese.
p.s. Beecher's Flagship and Pleasant Valley Dairy Mutschli are fab, too. Damn. . .very nice. . .I seldom have that much cheese on hand at once.

Something I had recently that practically made me orgasm was Old Amsterdam Gouda. Holy mother... A bit of that, some pinot noir...

I don't know about the Tilamook, but for some reason, I've always got to have the Kraft Singles, too (perhaps since they melt super-quick and faster than "real cheeses").

These days I crave Double Gloucester a lot, so much I buy it all up at the store just in case they don't import more, oh and it has to be imported from England, the so called English cheeses made over here don't stack up in taste.

I totally agree. I always get the imported stuff, too. And that shit is addictive. Dang. It's expensive too but oh so well worth it.
